Kubi Chaza Indi, founder of the Kubi cosmetics brand, which has been in existence since 1981, has launched her inspirational biographical book titled KUBI: A Trend Setter’s Story of Entrepreneurship Against All Odds.

The launch was held at her Alexandra Park home on Saturday.

The first two copies of the book were auctioned for US$200 and US$100, respectively, while each of the nearly 100 guests purchased a copy of the book at US$10.

Indi, widely regarded as one of the first few black women to venture into mainstream entrepreneurship in the early 1980s, had her remarkable journey celebrated not only through the book but also through testimonies highlighting her integrity, resilience, and lifetime achievements.

Chipo Mashingaidze smoothly directed the proceedings, while Charles Mugaviri delivered a powerful opening devotion.

Mugaviri praised Indi, describing her life as one rooted in respect, trustworthiness and dedication across various spheres, including business, film acting, church and family.

He noted that books play a crucial role in shaping mindsets and serve as a repository of both success and adversity.

“You are now a great evangelist, especially on issues related to entrepreneurship,”

Mugaviri said.

Music interludes added vibrancy to the event as gospel group Boys of Thunder entertained guests with songs such as Mhururu Kumatenga, Kubata Kwamwari Kuri Pano, Hakuna Chinoramba and Verenga Tsamba, drawing the audience into spirited singing.

Urban grooves and Afro-fusion singer Diana Samkange also performed, helping to celebrate the businesswoman through the song Neria, originally performed by Oliver Mtukudzi.

Indi, a seasoned actor in her earlier years, featured in both a James Bond film and the Zimbabwean classic Neria, where the song served as the title track.

Tendai Gwatiringa, Nyaradzo Group Head of strategic solutions and corporate affairs, said Indi’s decision to tell her own story through the book was a remarkable milestone.

Securico founder and chief executive Divine Ndhlukula described Indi as a role model whose influence has transcended generations.

Ndhlukula revealed that she received defining advice from Indi that continues to guide her leadership journey to this day.

In line with modern business principles of giving back to the community, part of the proceeds from the event were donated to a private voluntary organisation, Our Children Our Trust.

Simbi Indi, who now runs the Kubi brand, said reading her mother’s book was an enriching experience and reflected the values that underpinned the Kubi brand’s commitment to customer satisfaction.
