HARARE, Aug. 11 (NewsDay Live) — The Ministry of Health and Child Care has urged the public not to panic over a recent increase in influenza cases, saying the rise is consistent with normal seasonal patterns.

In an update on Monday, the ministry said it was closely monitoring the situation through the national disease surveillance system and health facilities.

“Zimbabwe is experiencing its annual seasonal increase in influenza cases, typically seen during the winter months of June and July,” the ministry said.

“There is currently no cause for alarm, as the increase is consistent with normal seasonal patterns.”

The ministry urged the public to remain calm while taking basic preventive measures, protecting people at higher risk and seeking medical attention when necessary.

Young children, older people, pregnant women and individuals living with conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma and HIV, as well as those with weakened immune systems, were identified as being at higher risk of complications.
