WESTPROP Holdings, the developer of Millennium Heights, has redefined sustainable urban living with the installation of a one-megawatt solar plant that now covers its 54-bay car park. More parking bays on upcoming apartment blocks will also be fitted with solar panels, generating additional energy for the estate, the company said.

As part of the commitment it made when pioneering the 1 000-unit estate, WestProp delivered a green energy solution through a solar-powered car park that now supplies electricity to the apartments, ensuring an uninterrupted power supply.

The project marks a significant step in Zimbabwe's transition towards renewable energy and smart urban development. By integrating large-scale solar generation into residential infrastructure, Millennium Heights is reducing dependence on the national grid while demonstrating how sustainable technologies can enhance both property value and residents' quality of life.

What was once a simple parking space is now a vast canopy of solar panels, transforming everyday convenience into a source of clean energy.

WestProp chief executive Ken Sharpe reaffirmed his commitment to green energy, emphasising the company's continued investment in solar power to drive Millennium Heights.

“By harnessing the sun, we demonstrate our commitment to environmental stewardship. The solar plant provides shade and comfort while generating renewable energy that reduces reliance on fossil fuels,” he said.

Sharpe added: “Sustainability is our guiding principle. From gas reticulation to solar integration, we embed eco-friendly solutions into every development. The Millennium Heights solar car park demonstrates how lifestyle and sustainability can coexist seamlessly.”

The installation forms part of WestProp's broader strategy to take all its developments off the national grid. Through investments in solar and other green energy solutions, the company is creating resilient communities with reliable power supplies and a reduced environmental footprint.

Millennium Heights apartments are not only modern homes but also attractive investment opportunities, with many owners using platforms such as Airbnb to generate rental income. The model combines lifestyle and entrepreneurship, enabling residents to enjoy the estate's amenities while capitalising on Harare's growing demand for premium accommodation.

Solar energy now powers Millennium Heights' advanced security systems, including 24-hour monitoring, controlled access, surveillance cameras, and perimeter protection.

As a cornerstone of Millennium City — Zimbabwe's first purpose-built smart urban ecosystem — the estate integrates modern living with convenience. Residents live in apartments surrounded by green spaces, work in nearby office hubs, shop at the Mall of Zimbabwe, and enjoy recreational facilities within the wetland park.

Linked with Pokugara Estate, Millennium Heights forms part of a clustered community that blends apartments, townhouses and family homes, supported by shared infrastructure and services.

From solar energy to sustainable water systems, WestProp is building future-ready cities that balance lifestyle, investment and environmental responsibility, experts say.
