Don’t create your own god

BIBLE

WE live in this our natural realm or for simplicity, the earth. There are many questions we need answers to and many mysteries we need to be demystified. We often come face to face with inexplicable situations, conditions and circumstances. This is where we see pseudo-Christians and Christians who are not grounded in the Word running to whoever is said is capable to help them.

They conveniently forget that their help comes from the Lord. The psalter states clearly where help comes from in Psalm 121:1-2: “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”

Believers’ help comes from God the Father who is described convincingly in Psalm 121:3-4: “He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.”

He’s awake for your sake dear believer. In search of solutions, many define who God is irrespective of the revelation of the Scriptures. I often hear believers say something like taking two chairs, one for God the Father and one for them in order to talk tough in a no-holds barred dialogue if not monologue or soliloquy with the Maker and Creator. Idol worship doesn’t come any better. That’s a script for African movies. He’s in us and we in Him, not on a chair. Don’t create your own god, worship God the Father revealed in Christ Jesus.

When life seems smooth flowing, please solidify yourself in the faith and Word. The waters of doubt, uncertainty and fear won’t sweep you away. God the Father isn’t under obligation to do what He hasn’t said in His Word no matter how frustrated we may appear. We relate with Him on His terms. Please ask Him in these times because in trying times, humans tend to question Him. God the Father is good all the time and all the time God the Father is good.

On incarnation those around saw God the Father Who wasn’t seen by anyone up to that time. John 1:18 settles it: “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.”

Someone may say Moses saw God in the burning bush. Acts 7:30,35 answer: “And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.”

The example of the chair I gave above needs expansion. Idol worship is creation by human beings. We should worship the Creator. It's instructive to note that symbols like the dove representing the Holy Spirit is idol worship of highest order. We need to desist from images of Jesus in frames, etc and the Cross as an emblem.

Please purposefully read the following, Deuteronomy 4:15-19: “Take ye, therefore, good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the Lord spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire: Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female, The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air, The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth: And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the Lord thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.”

Are you waiting for an answer from God the Father or your caricature god? Enough words for the wise. Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. Grace and peace be multiplied to you through knowledge.
