TWO fishermen from Ndomo Fishing Camp drowned on March 27 while fishing in Lake Kariba.

Their bodies were recovered a week later by members of the public and the police sub-aqua marine team.

Information at hand indicates that the pair went out fishing in the company of a third person. After they spent time fishing, the third colleague left them to attend to some other duties elsewhere.

Upon his return, he could not find the duo. He alerted other community members, resulting in a search party.

Later the police sub aqua unit joined forces with the community in the search, leading to the recovery of the bodies.

Mashonaland West acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera on Monday said: “The sad incident occurred at Ndomo Fishing Camp on 27 March 2023. Honest Muzingili aged 21 and Tapiwa Malowa aged 26, both from Ndomo Fishing Camp were fishing together with Edward Munsaka, aged 51. Munsaka left the site and proceeded home leaving two fishermen, but they never followed him back and he became suspicious.”

Kohwera said on March 31, 2023, Munsaka and the community mobilised themselves to try to locate the pair, but the search was in vain.

“A missing persons’ report was made at Kariba Police Station and the sub-aqua unit attended the report. On April 1, the two bodies were retrieved and taken to Kariba Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.”
