ZIMBABWE Women's cricket team has intensified preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 Global Qualifiers with another trip to India for a training camp.

The Lady Chevrons spent over two weeks in India last October preparing for the ICC Women’s World Cup Africa Qualifier which took place in Uganda last December.

And having reaped the rewards the last time out, the team decided to once again take their preparations for the global qualifier to the Omtex training facility.

The team flew out yesterday evening.

Skipper Mary-Anne Musonda said it has been a busy season for her squad who are also set to play at the Africa Games in Accra, Ghana, this April, before they travel to the United Arab Emirates for a T20 World Cup qualifier.

The 2023 T20 World Cup is scheduled for Bangladesh.

“This has been the busiest season for us in a while now. The preps are all okay, our plans are shaping up okay, regardless of the few injuries and niggles,” Musonda told NewsDay Sport at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport shortly before departure yesterday.

“It just adds on the extra loads we need to fine tune our skill and game.”

Experienced batter Sharne Mayers, who recently recovered from an injury, made it into the squad since sustaining a knee injury last year, and so was pace bowler Audrey Mazvishaya, who shrugged off a flexo hip injury to make the trip.

There was also room for the spinning duo of Loryn Phiri and Tasmeen Granger who worming their way back into the side for the tour.

“The team always welcomes guys back. Hard work pays and this is a positive sign,” Musonda said of the quadrat’s return.

“It adds on to the healthy competition within the squad and thus raises everyone’s game.”

Top order batter Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano is yet to recover from a hamstring injury she sustained during the limited overs home series against Ireland, while all-rounder Ashley Ndiraya is also out with an ankle sprain picked against Ireland.

She looks set to be out for a couple of months.

Vice captain Josephine Nkomo and wicketkeeper batter Modester Mupachikwa did not travel to India due to club cricket assignments in Australia, but will join the team in time for the Africa Games.
