MALVIN Hwata proved to be a worthy buy for Chicken Inn after netting a brace on his debut for the GameCocks as they dispatched visiting Tenax in a league match at Luveve Stadium yesterday.

Hwata (24), acquired from new boys Cranborne Bullets, fired his warning shots at Luveve as the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League resumed.

Brian Muza opened the account for Chicken Inn nine minutes into the game with a shot from inside the box stretching goalkeeper Philip Makuni to the far post after taking advantage of sloppy defending by Tenax.

Hwata doubled Chicken Inn’s lead with a brilliant header in the 29th minute. Hwata grabbed his second two minutes later with a close range shot from inside the box, beating Makuni hands down.

It was Chicken Inn’s second win in three games after beating Cranborne Bullets last year where they spotted Hwata and they have lost one to FC Platinum.

The GameCocks were without head coach Joey Antipas, who has a bereavement in his family, and his assistant Prince Matore took charge.

Matore said he wanted to give confidence to his new players and he was happy with the good start.

“We are happy we started well and with a clean sheet. We played all our new players because we wanted to give them confidence,” Matore said.

Tenax are winless since the start of the league and coach Shadreck Magurasave said Chicken Inn punished in the first half for poor defending.

“They punished us after utilising the first half. We tried in the second half, but we could not make it. We conceded silly goals and we are going back to work on our defending,” Magurasave said.
