Smaller must be thanking the day he joined Bosso

Mongameli “Smaller” Tshuma

Highlanders’ new rising star Mongameli “Smaller” Tshuma must be thanking the day he put pen to paper and signed for the Bulawayo giants after leaving Hwange during the off season.

It comes after the 24-year-old lanky midfielder has earned his first ever Warriors call-up, benefiting from injuries that have ruled out some players ahead of the Four Nations tournament scheduled for March 28–31 in Botswana.

Tshuma is a talented player who simply needed the right platform to showcase his ability on a bigger stage.

Without taking anything away from Hwange, his move to Highlanders has given him the much needed exposure and might elevate his game.

He is now beginning to make a name for himself at Amahlolanyama, especially following his scintillating performance against Dynamos recently.

His rise can serve as a lesson to other players that exposure, not just talent is crucial, especially in Zimbabwe where limited resources often make it difficult for media and journalists to travel widely in search of talent.

The gap has seen many promising players struggle to gain recognition and progress in their careers.

We hope that one day, as journalists, particularly freelancers, we will be better resourced to reach those areas and give much-needed coverage to talented players who currently lack exposure.
