THE community at King George VI School and Centre in Bulawayo came together to honour the life of former learner and teacher, Constantine Chagonda, who was found dead in his apartment last week. His untimely passing on has left family, colleagues and students in deep shock.
Speaking during a memorial service, headmistress Perseverance Hadede extended her condolences to the bereaved family.
“On behalf of the King George family, we extend our deepest sympathies to the Chagonda family. We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate Constantine’s life together as a community. His passing on has deeply affected us all,” she said.
Former classmates and friends also attended the memorial, a sign of the enduring bonds Chagonda maintained long after completing his studies at the school.
Students described him as a patient and dedicated educator whose encouragement shaped their confidence and personal growth.
“His patience and unwavering support helped to shape us into who we are today. We will carry his lessons with us for years to come,” said one learner.
In an emotional address, Chagonda’s mother thanked the school community for the outpouring of love and the positive testimonies shared about her son.
“When I heard about my son’s death I felt like killing myself, but hearing how he touched so many lives gives me strength and comfort,” she said.
