A 43-year-old woman from Bulawayo’s Makokoba suburb stabbed her husband during a domestic dispute surrounding the payment of school fees for their children.
Francina Nyathi was found guilty of contravening Section 3(1)(a), read with Section 4(1) of the Domestic Violence Act when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Challenge Mahembe.
Nyathi was sentenced to 24 months in prison, with six months suspended for five years on condition that she does not commit a similar offence during that period. The remaining 18 months were suspended on condition that she completes 630 hours of community service at Mzilikazi Police Station.
On November 30, 2025, Nyathi and her husband, FayilaChimwoyo, were at their home in Makokoba when an argument broke out over the payment of their child’s school fees.
During the dispute, NyathistruckChimwoyo twice on the back with a brick before taking a kitchen knife and stabbing him once on the left wrist and twice near the right eye.
Chimwoyo sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to Nyathi’s arrest.
