PEOPLE with disabilities (PWD) in Bulawayo are demanding representation in council to have their challenges addressed.
They made the call during a meeting held in ward 26, Emganwini suburb.
Crisban Mpofu, one of the PWD representatives in the city, said they have petitioned the local authority over their grievances.
“We have pressing issues such as accommodation, vending and employment challenges,” Mpofu said.
“For instance the government has made a resolution that there should be a quarter system to accommodate us in terms of stands allocation.”
“We also appeal to the council to consider the idea of employing our wives in employment opportunities that arise so as to be able to raise capital for our projects and pay council bills."
He said municipal police continue to violate their rights by confiscating their wares.
“We also appeal to government to establish to make sure that in each school there has to be a special needs class block to cut the distances that our children have to travel,” Mpofu said.
