RISING Zimbabwean swimming sensation Robyn Lee was the toast of the opening day of the African Junior Swimming Championships after claiming two gold medals in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday evening.

The 16-year-old young star, who is based in Perth, Australia set the tone for a successful evening after dominating the girls 15-16 100 breaststroke final to win in a personal best time of one minute 5.07 second (1:05.07).
Lee, who represented Zimbabwe at the Youth Olympics in China last year finished comfortably ahead of Tunisia’s Rim Ouennich, who claimed the silver medal in 1:07.91 while South Africa’s Kristen Straszacke finished third in 1:06.14.
After getting off to the perfect start, Lee returned to clinch another gold medal in the girls 15-16 100m butterfly final after touching the wall first in a time of 1:03.51.
Uganda’s Rebecca Ssengonzi won the silver medal with a time of 1.03.74 while Algeria’s Nesrine Medjahed, won bronze in a time of 1.04.94.

Lee will be hoping to continue her brilliant run of success at the African Junior Championship after she won four gold medals and one bronze in the five events he took part in at the last edition of the games held in Zambia two years ago.
Her performance then helped Zimbabwe secure a third place finish.
Liam Davis, who is also part of the Zimbabwe team in Egypt also enjoyed a promising start after reaching the final of the boys’ 50m breastroke final where he came eighth with a time of 32.11.
