The stage is set for the Old Mutual Vumba 21km half-marathon to be held this Saturday, where the country’s top athletes are expected converge.

The race had been initially set for October 10 before it was moved to October 29.
National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) president, Tendai Tagara confirmed that the race would now be held on Saturday.
Tagara, who was re-elected as the athletics body’s boss until 2020 on Saturday, said he was expecting the country’s top athletes to compete for the top accolades.
“I am glad to announce to you that the Old Mutual 21km Vumba Mountain Run will now be held this Saturday.

Preparations are now at an advanced stage. Some of the country’s top athletes have been calling to register to participate in the race,’’ he said.
“We are happy with the sponsors. When we were elected into office a few years ago, they (Old Mutual) used to sponsor two events, but now we have five events they are sponsoring. This shows that they also have confidence in our executive.”
Some of the athletes who are expected to compete in the race include Olympian Wirimayi Zhuwawo, Rutendo Nyahora and Faith and Constance Nyasango, among others.
Manicaland Athletics Board chairman, Joshua Matume said they had put adequate preparations ahead of the race, although he did not disclose the total sponsorship for this year’s event.
“At the moment, I am not in a position to disclose the total sponsorship package, but the finer details will be availed before the weekend. We are almost done with our preparations, our technical officials are ready to do their duty,” he said.
