At Hillside Golf Club (Mutare): The club’s Wednesday Club was the major tournament of the week unlike at most clubs in Harare where Saturday is a major competition day.

Most club members at Hillside take part in the Wednesday competition and sponsors who want to make mileage sponsor this day.

However, Saturday is always available if there is a particular sponsor who wants to sponsor it otherwise Saturdays are normally quiet with members just playing friendly games.

Last Wednesday’s competition was individual Stableford which was kindly sponsored by The Big Five Syndicate.

The winners were 1 L Nyikadzino -40 points; 2 D Bunjira -39; 3 T Yatras -37. There were two longest drive and three nearest the pin prizes.

Winners of longest drives were hole number 9- M Chikwana; hole number 18 -J Sigaba. Nearest the pin winners were hole number 8- D. Bunjira; hole number 11- D Bunjira; hole number 17- L Nyikadzino.

It is worth observing that hitting them long does not necessarily end up with the winning score.

This may be an indication of how important the short game is in this game of golf. At Ruwa Country Club, Wednesday Club competition was an individual Stableford and the winners were 1 B Chimoto – 38 points; 2 S Mubvunzi – 36 On Sunday the club hosted Mthwakazi Golf Society who had an individual Stableford competition.
