Eastern Region Football chairman Fungai Chihuri has thrown his weight behind Zifa president Cuthbert Dube for his decision to clean up soccer in the country in the aftermath of match-fixing allegations.
Warriors coach Norman Mapeza, his assistant Joey Antipas and 99 players were recently suspended from all national team call-ups pending Asiagate conclusion.
Speaking at the Zifa presidential annual awards ceremony for Manicaland at Mutare Club, Chihuri said clubs should desist from corrupt activities.
The Saturday event was attended by the mother body chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze, communications manager Nicky Dhlamini, Buffaloes chairman Hlanganiso Matangaidze and Manicaland chairman Godfrey Kombo, Mutare City Council town cleck Obert Muzawazi among others.
“The time has come for clubs to have proper accounting systems. Proper financial reports are good because they build confidence in our sponsors to pour money into our coffers. I am urging clubs to desist from corruption.
“We should not buy referees to win matches and it’s good for clubs to gain promotion on merit rather than engaging in corrupt activities.

“There is no problem in cleaning our football and I believe what our president (Dube) is doing is good for our football. We fully support him and he should not listen to negative vibes that have been going around the county, but should continue to do the good work,” he said.
Mutare City Rovers players who gained promotion into the Eastern Region Division One League last year, received gold medals and winners’ shield whilst runners-up Bottle Tigers were given silver medals and a shield.
