Crack Zimbabwean sprinter Ngonidzashe Makusha’s dream of racing against the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt on Friday was shattered after he ruptured his Achilles tendon while preparing for the race in the Czech Republic.

Makusha, who was one of Zimbabwe’s brightest medal hopefuls in London, is now a major doubt for the Olympic Games.

Yesterday, he underwent surgery in Tallahassee, Florida, with the two best foot and lower leg doctors available. The surgery was a success, and he came out at 8pm (US time) on Tuesday night, his coach Kenneth Harnden said.
