ZIMBABWE is in line to host the Zone VI Qualifiers for the CAVB Continental Senior Championship from June 7 to 14, a key step on the qualification pathway to the LA28 Olympic Games.

The Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) has confirmed the Zone VI allocation, with secretary-general Priestledge Nhamburo noting that final hosting approval is still pending from the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC).

“While we await final approval from SRC, we cannot stand still,” Nhamburo told NewsDay Sport.

“Work has started to align with CAVB requirements, so Zimbabwe is ready to deliver a continental-standard event once we get the green light.”

If approved, Zimbabwe will host national teams from across Southern Africa in Harare for a week-long tournament, with qualification spots for the CAVB Continental Championship at stake.

Nhamburo said the hosting opportunity presents a major advantage for Zimbabwe’s national teams.

“This removes the heavy cost of international travel and allows our players to compete at home, in front of our people, with Olympic qualification on the line,” he said.

“Technically and psychologically, that is a major advantage.”

He added that delivering the event will require strong support across multiple areas, including venues, equipment, transport, accommodation, catering, medical services, branding, broadcast, and technical operations.

With approval still pending, ZVA is appealing to corporates, SMEs, individuals, and the diaspora to begin partnering early through sponsorships, in-kind support, or volunteer services.

“We are appealing to all stakeholders to walk this journey with us,” Nhamburo said.

“A Pledge and Sponsorship Form is available to ensure transparency and to match support to specific needs.”

He said the value for partners is significant.

“You align with the LA28 Olympic pathway and a national story that will draw regional attention. Your investment stays in Zimbabwe, eases the burden on our national teams, and builds infrastructure that outlasts the tournament,” he said.

From June 7 to 14, Zimbabwe has the opportunity to host the region and move closer to the world stage. While final approval is still pending, the message from organisers is clear.

“If we get this right, we show Zimbabwe can host and compete at the highest level. With backing now, we’ll be ready when the call comes,” Nhamburo said.
