FC Hunters head coach Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera remains confident his side will achieve its season objectives despite a difficult start to the Castle Premier Soccer League campaign.

The club has drawn five and lost three matches so far, while consistently creating scoring opportunities but struggling with finishing.

Saruchera attributed the results to a young squad still adapting to top-flight football, though one that is steadily improving with each outing.

After a 2–1 defeat to Herentals at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday, the coach praised his players and technical staff, insisting the club is “destined for greatness” as the squad continues to gel.

“We have a young team that is improving week in, week out, and I can see our current predicament becoming a thing of the past,” Saruchera told NewsDay Sport.

“The boys are doing everything within their means. They are learning fast and are committed — and that is the foundation of any great side.”

FC Hunters have dominated possession in most of their matches and created a flurry of chances — including 12 in their latest outing.

For Saruchera, it is proof that the system is working.

“It’s beyond the youngsters. They are executing the plan. As a coach, I’m proud of their application. It’s something we work on daily, and I have no doubt the goals will come,” he said.

Saruchera also praised his backroom staff and senior players, crediting them for helping stabilise the team. The blend of youth and experience, led by experienced players Ronald Pfumbidzai and Kelvin Shangiwa, has provided valuable mentorship.

“We have a fine balance. The seniors are guiding the boys, the coaches are drilling them well, and the energy at training is top class. This is a special group,” Saruchera added.

Despite the slow start, Saruchera insisted there is no panic within the camp.

“Going forward, we are playing for ourselves. We want to be up there among the top teams. All the goals and targets we set at the start of the season are still very much achievable,” he said, adding: “We are only a win away from turning this around.”

With possession dominance, a structured technical setup, and growing belief in the dressing room, Saruchera remains convinced FC Hunters are building toward something bigger.“This team is destined for greatness. The foundation is solid, the attitude is right, and the results will follow. Watch this space,” he said.
