HARARE, Apr. 14 (NewsDay Live) – The Pakistan Cricket Board has banned Blessing Muzarabani from the next two editions of the HBL Pakistan Super League after finding him in breach of contractual commitments.

The PCB said the decision followed a disciplinary review which established that the player had accepted key contractual terms but later opted for a conflicting engagement after he joined Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders.

This year’s editions of the IPL and PSL are running concurrently, and the PCB viewed his switch as a betrayal of trust.

“Failure to honour agreed-upon commitments undermines the professional framework of the league,” said the statement.

The board emphasised that professional cricket is built on trust and the certainty of agreements between players and franchises.

“Professional cricket operates on the bedrock of trust and the certainty of agreements,” the statement reads.

It further clarified that once essential terms such as remuneration and structure are agreed through formal communication, they become binding.

“Once essential terms are agreed upon through written correspondence, a binding obligation is formed,” said the statement.

The PCB noted that stepping away from such agreements without valid cause amounts to a breach of contractual responsibility and good faith.

“Moving away from such commitments without valid cause is a violation of contractual obligations and principles of good faith,” the statement reads.

PSL organisers also raised concern over the impact of such conduct on the league’s integrity and stakeholder confidence.

“Professionalism in franchise-based leagues requires participants to act with transparency and consistency,” said the statement.

They warned that entering into overlapping agreements damages trust and weakens the reliability of professional engagements.

“Entering into a conflicting engagement while a prior binding agreement subsists represents a departure from expected standards,” the statement reads.

The board maintained that the sanction is necessary to protect the league’s professional environment and uphold its ethical standards.

“The sanction serves as a necessary measure to safeguard the professional environment of the PSL,” said the statement.

It added that while modern schedules present challenges, the league will not compromise on fairness and contractual certainty.

“The league will not compromise on the ethical framework that ensures fairness to franchises,” the statement reads.
