WHILE the Premier Soccer League takes a breather for the international break, the local football spotlight shifts firmly onto the MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL).
The 2026 season officially roars into life today with a tantalising standalone fixture at Callies Sports Club in Harare.
The opening act sees former topflight mainstays Harare City host CP Chemicals at 3pm.
Under the guidance of coach Try Ncube, The Sunshine City Boys are making no secret of their ambitions to return to the elite division.
However, they face a determined CP Chemicals side eager to spoil the party and make an immediate statement in what is widely regarded as Zimbabwe’s most competitive second-tier league.
This season marks the dawn of a transformative partnership following the visionary leadership of the newly elected board.

Led by chairperson Sweeney Mushonga and vice-chair Cuthbert Chitima, along with committee members Desmond Ali, John Remba, Rumbidzai Muyambuki and Gilbert Chiminya, the board has hit the ground running by securing one of the most lucrative sponsorship packages in domestic history.
The landmark title sponsorship deal with MCM Estates differs from traditional corporate deals by directly rewarding the players and coaches who drive the league.
The impact of this lucrative partnership was felt at the glitzy 2025 awards, where Grey Kufandada received holiday home stands valued at US$48 000 for his scoring exploits.
This year, the stakes are even higher as MCM Estates provides monthly cash prizes for top performers and long-term property security for the league’s stars, making the NRSL the most attractive lower-division league in the country.
While today’s clash in the capital takes centre stage, a full roster of 10 potentially explosive matches follows tomorrow.
In a massive Battle of the Forces, former PSL sides Cranborne Bullets and Black Rhinos will lock horns at Commando Barracks, while a high-stakes Chinhoyi derby sees FC Oden face Willard Katsande’s Rangers at Chinhoyi Stadium.
Title aspirants Golden Eagles will travel to the intimidating Pfupajena Stadium to take on Chegutu Pirates, while Zambezi G&C host Black Mambas in Centenary.
Other fixtures include MWOS U-19 against PAM FC at Ngoni, High Range hosting Karoi United at Gwanzura, and Shamva Mine taking on Batanai.
With all matches in the 22-team championship kicking off at 3pm, the infusion of MCM Estates’ lucrative sponsorship ensures that every goal and every point carries life-changing weight.
