TELONE coach Herbert Maruwa has fired warning shots at his opponents in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, stating that his team is stronger than last season.

Maruwa’s team lost their first match of the 2026 season 2-1 to Dynamos in what turned out to be a mud test at Ascot Stadium due to waterlogging.

Though they lost, Maruwa has remained defiant, believing his squad is too strong this season and that they are undeterred by the false start.

The WiFi Boys head to Ngoni Stadium tomorrow for the second match of the season against MWOS FC, with memories of their ill-tempered affair at the same venue last season.

They received two red cards and missed a penalty in a match that ended 2-2.

Nevertheless, Maruwa is buoyant that his squad will rise above the waters and achieve better than last season’s fifth-place finish.

Speaking at a Press conference in Gweru yesterday, Maruwa said: “We have a strong squad, one that’s even better than what we had last season.

“We have to keep a positive mind and make sure we get a result that’s better.

“Against Dynamos, we were affected by the pitch, but also, we lacked team spirit, which I believe we’ve addressed going into the next match.”

Maruwa will also be without captain Frank Makarati and striker Farai Mutatu, who were missing in action at training due to injuries.
