IT was a thrilling weekend, as Red Bulls and Charmz Rovers qualified for the final of the Sky tournament, set for December 24 at Murewa Council grounds, in Murewa.

The two sides will face off to determine the champions after impressive semi-final victories. Red Bulls cruised past Reinstay with a 2-0 win, while Charmz Rovers edged Tafex 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw.

Tafex endured a gruelling campaign, playing two matches in one day. They first completed their rain-disrupted fixture against Correctional Kings before taking on Charmz Rovers in the semi-final. Fatigue showed as they eventually fell short in the penalty shootout, with Charmz converting all their spot-kicks while Tafex missed one.

Rain again threatened their progress, with the semifinal shootouts hurriedly concluded amid fears of another downpour at the council grounds.

Sky Tournament chairperson Bernard Murambidzi praised the turnout, saying the community’s support made the event vibrant.

"I want to thank the Murewa community for the turnout; people have come out in large numbers," he said. He was also excited about the disciplined and non-chaotic environment.

"I am excited about the issue of discipline - no brawls, no chaos. To our youth, let's keep this high."

Murambidzi said it wasn't the end of the road for the losers and that the battle for third place was still on.

"To those who lost, we will meet again next time, and there will be a game for third and fourth place [meaning Tafex and Reinstay]. On the 24th, there will be Charmz Rovers vs Redbulls - this is a must-watch game," he said.

After the final, the game will be blessed with music entertainment.

"As for artistes, some of those I know are confirmed to be there: Freeman, Alick Macheso, and Jah Prayzah," he added.

Murambidzi applauded tournament patron Tatenda Choruwa for supporting youth talent and ended with a strong message: “We’re saying no to drugs.”

The tournament carries US$10 000 in prize money, with additional individual awards set to be handed out based on team performance.
