ZIMBABWE’S Under-19 cricket team is gearing up for a momentous start to their ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 campaign, with their opening match set against Scotland at the historic Takashinga Cricket Club in Highfield, Harare.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) yesterday unveiled the official match schedule for the tournament, which Zimbabwe is co-hosting with Namibia.
The Young Chevrons’ first match, which is part of a triple-header on the opening day, is scheduled for January 15, 2026.
The Highfield-based Takashinga Cricket Club, a venue synonymous with Zimbabwean cricket development, has been designated as the home ground for the hosts throughout the group stage.
The club is one of the three esteemed Zimbabwean venues for the age-group World Cup, alongside Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo and Harare Sports Club.
After locking horns with Scotland, Zimbabwe, who are in Group B alongside powerhouses Pakistan and England, will battle the English three days later on Sunday January 18.

The hosts will conclude their group fixtures with what promises to be a potentially thrilling encounter against Pakistan on Thursday January 22.
All three of Zimbabwe’s group matches will be played at the Takashinga Sports Club.
The Young Chevrons are currently deep in preparations for the global showcase, competing against local franchise sides to fine-tune their squad.
Sixteen teams will compete for the title across 41 matches over 23 days, with the event running from January 15 to February 6, 2026.
Two other hosting venues include Namibia Cricket Ground and HP Oval in Namibia.
The final will take place in Harare on February 6 at the Harare Sports Club.
The tournament features four groups of four, followed by a Super Six stage, leading into the semi-finals and the title clash.
Teams will participate in warm-up fixtures from January 9 to 14.
ICC chairman Jay Shah expressed his enthusiasm for the event, highlighting the tournament’s history of showcasing future cricketing legends.
“The ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup has long been the cradle of greatness,” he said, noting the event’s role in shaping the careers of icons like Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson.
Shah also extended a warm welcome to the debutants.
“We are especially pleased to welcome Tanzania as they make their debut and join a truly global field of teams.
