“Each year, the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke continues to become stronger and more inspiring,” Hungwe said.

“This year, we are thrilled to welcome cyclists from Mozambique, which adds an exciting international flavour and demonstrates how the Great Dyke story continues to resonate beyond our borders.”

The tour will cover a scenic route of around 328km over three days, passing through some of Zimbabwe’s most picturesque towns, including Chegutu, Kadoma, Kwekwe Gweru and Shurugwi.

According to Hungwe, the route promises to be a challenging one, with cyclists facing a mix of hills, valleys and straight stretches of road.

However, the scenic views and warm hospitality of the communities along the way will provide ample motivation for the riders.

This year’s edition features an exciting new addition that includes an 80km competitive race from the Unki Mine turnoff in Shurugwi to Zvishavane.

The race is expected to attract elite cyclists and raise the competitive edge of the event. The fastest rider will be crowned the winner of the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke 80km King of the Mountain category.

The tour also showcases the investment opportunities in the region, as the cyclists ride through three cities and three towns, in a key region that produces 60% of mining revenue.

Hungwe highlighted the economic significance of the tour.

“The tour showcases the investment opportunities in the region as the cyclists ride through three cities and three towns, in a key region that produces 60% of mining revenue.

“Sponsors will be given the opportunity to engage thousands of town and city residents through robust activations.”

The Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke is not just about cycling; but it is also about giving back to the community.

Proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the Gifted Children Foundation, a local non-profit that provides education and mentorship to underprivileged children.

The foundation’s work is crucial in empowering young people and helping them reach their full potential.

This year’s theme, Riding for Opportunity, Wellness and Charity, emphasises the importance of physical and mental wellbeing, community empowerment and philanthropy.

Hungwe added that the theme speaks directly to the priorities of communities in the Great Dyke.

“Wellness has become a buzz word for mining communities and the people of the Great Dyke,” he said.

“Through this Tour, we are encouraging healthier lifestyles, teamwork, and mental resilience while also giving back to those who need support the most,” he added.

The 8th Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke promises to be an unforgettable experience, combining thrilling cycling action with community engagement and economic opportunities.

With its rich history and growing popularity, this event is set to be a major highlight in Zimbabwe’s sporting calendar, promoting wellness, unity, and development along the Great Dyke.

As the event approaches, excitement is building, and all eyes are on the Great Dyke, ready to witness the thrill of cycling at its best.
