GWERU-BASED Central Regional Soccer League (CRSL) side Sheasham FC has reversed its shock decision to pull both its men’s and women’s teams from their respective leagues, announcing yesterday that they would immediately resume competitive action.

The sensational U-turn comes days after the club dramatically withdrew from the CRSL, citing a lack of fair play and an uneven playing field following a 3-2 defeat to MSU FC that saw them fall one point behind leaders Hardrock FC in the race for promotion into the topflight.

Sheasham, who had been vocal about poor officiating and biased treatment allegedly ignored by the CRSL, released a statement yesterday confirming the resumption of play.

They are currently well in the running for promotion.

“Sheasham FC and Sheasham Gweru Queens are pleased to confirm the resumption of our participation in the Zifa Central Region Soccer League and the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League, respectively,” the statement read.

The club attributed the change of heart to productive high-level dialogue following their initial decision.

“This decision follows constructive engagements with various football leadership stakeholders, during which we had the opportunity to discuss our concerns,” they stated.

Crucially, the club indicated

that their concerns were being addressed.

“We are encouraged by the tangible steps being taken to address the issues raised and remain committed to contributing positively to the growth of the game,” the statement affirmed.

The withdrawal had prompted a reaction from the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa), which established an Ad Hoc Committee of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances and whether Sheasham had followed the proper channels.

Zifa had previously advised that Sheasham remained a member of the CRSL until the issue was amicably resolved through the proper processes.

Sheasham used the statement to thank its support base, which had remained loyal during the turbulent week.

“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our loyal supporters and the wider community for their unwavering passion and patience during this period,” they said.

“Your belief in the club has been our greatest motivation, and we value the encouragement and input received throughout these discussions.”

With their sights firmly set on achieving promotion, the club made a rallying call to its supporters.

“As we return to competitive action, we call upon our fans, partners and community to continue rallying behind both teams.

“Your steadfast support remains vital to our success, and together we look forward to a strong and united journey ahead.”

The resumption of play by Sheasham FC injects immediate excitement back into the CRSL promotion race, which now looks set for a thrilling conclusion.
