ZIMBABWE’s began their month long of tour of Bangladesh on a disappointing after losing the first Test by three wickets at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Monday.

After being dismissed for just 114 in its second innings for a lead of just 101 runs, Zimbabwe fought hard but it was not enough as the hosts chased down the victory target with 3 wickets in hand to win the match inside three days.

Earlier, Taijul Islam returned Bangladesh’s best-ever innings haul on Monday, taking eight wickets as Zimbabwe was dismissed for just 114 in its second innings.

Islam’s 8-39 eclipsed the figures of 7-36 by fellow left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan against New Zealand in Chittagong in 2008, and leaves Bangladesh needing just 101 runs to win.

It was Taijul’s second five-wicket haul after he took 5-135 in his debut test against the West Indies in August.

The two teams now head to Khulna for the second Test starting next Monday at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium. Agencies
