CYPRUS-BASED Zimbabwean designer Felostencia Munashe Zisengwe has said her designs are inspired by American actress and singer Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman.

The self-taught designer told NewsDay Life & Style that she learnt how to put the pieces together when she bought her first sewing machine in 2017.

Her designs are uncommonly catchy and unpredictable, as she merges celebrity style (Hollywood) and experimental creativity of her own.

“I began my career as a child model and back-up dancer, before gaining fame for my role as Rocky Blue on the Disney Channel sitcom Shake It Up. My designs are cross-cultural and interdenominational as I just love fusing everything up and bringing out a masterpiece,” she said.

Zisengwe said she found inspiration from Zendaya’s dressing and redesigned her clothes mostly as content for her media side.

“I am currently recreating Zendaya’s outfits and hoping to design a piece for her in these coming years. I and my team reached for copyright issues to just redesign some of her (Zendaya) outfits for our Instagram (IG) and YouTube,” she said.

Zisengwe, who is also the founder of the fashion brand Felostencia under the Umbrella of Felo’s Haven, said her success had come from being driven by the right motives.

“We sometimes dress Makosi Musambasi, chief executive officer of Africa Media INC, breast cancer survivor and former Big Brother United Kingdom finalist. Those connections made the work easier,” she said.

Zisengwe said she would be launching a fashion show in August this year.
