BY SILISIWE MABALEKA/ MPUMELELO MOYO BULAWAYO actor, Greatjoy Idunyisiwe Hlatshwayo has landed a lead role in the Intaba Enkulu drama series set to premiere on August 28 at Ster Kinekor in Bulawayo.

Popularly known as Greatjoy Hlats in showbiz, Hlatshwayo will be playing Mgcini in the drama, alongside David Jacob Mafukeni,  Katongo Mutale and Panashe Chikomba.

The multi-talented artist wears many hats. Apart from being an actor, he is a dancer, choreographer, television and radio presenter and model.

Hlats told NewsDay Life & Style that the drama series is about having a fearless spirit and determination to achieve one’s dreams.

“The Intaba Enkulu drama series is about a township called Chisomo, a mining town which has a sacred mountain which is believed that when one goes there, they could disappear,” he said.

“So, the storyline revolves around that mysterious revered mountain, gomoguru/ intaba enkulu and the lead actor (Greatjoy Hlats) is on a quest to find out more about this sacred mountain. A lot will be happening and the series will bring clarity to some confusion about the mountain.”

Greatjoy Hlats believes that his experience in the trade may have qualified him to be the lead actor in the drama series.

“The catalogue I have on my biography shows and proves I have been in the game for some time and I know what it takes to be an actor or thespian,” he said.

Greatjoy Hlats launched his career in 2016, through a stage play called The Ben 10 directed by Memory Kumbota.

He reckons that showbiz industry is not a bed of roses, adding that he had learnt to be consistent and determined in order to push against all odds.

“Being in the trenches hustling around brings character and growth to one and when you do it through a calling you definitely find purpose. It is a fulfilling experience to live on,” he said.

“Everyone has a space in this universe to be who they want to be. I am a go-getter and entrepreneur. Having been true to myself, such authenticity has been the hallmark of everything I do. My prowess is being locked in with art so deeply that I give a performance out of this world on screen or even on stage.”

Greatjoy Hlats has appeared on international productions screened on South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC1), Mzansi Magic, Mnet, eTV, Trace Africa, Channel O, and Mzansi Magic Music among other channels.
