OUSTED Zanu PF youth leader, Pupurai Tongarepi, yesterday distanced himself from a damning statement believed to have been authored by disgruntled former youths, calling on President Robert Mugabe to step down. BY STAFF REPORTER

Togarepi claimed the statement was authored by a cartel of Zanu PF “mercenaries” to force a wedge between the youths and Mugabe. He also defended its alleged co-authors — Ernegy Mutodi, Fidelis Fengu and one Archford Guruviro — saying there was nowhere they would go against their party leader.

According to the statement, which has gone viral on social media platforms, the authors accused Mugabe of pursuing anti-revolution policies and listed 60 reasons why he should leave office. Addressing journalists in Harare, Togarepi said he would not ditch Mugabe.
