The infamous 2008 political abductions return to the limelight Thursday when the case of 75-year old Fidelis Chiramba along with other abductees and torture victims comes for hearing before High Court judge, Justice Felistas Chatukuta.

The man from Banket is suing four government ministers for alleged unlawful abduction.

Respondents cited in court papers are the co-minister of Home Affairs Kembo Mohadi, Giles Mutsekwa (former Home Affairs co-minister), Patrick Chinamasa (Justice and Legal Affairs) and Didymus Mutasa (former State Security minister).

The ministers are being sued by at least 19 other people who are each claiming up to $1,2 million in damages suffered as a result of the alleged illegal detention and torture.

Most of the cases will be heard in clusters owing to their similarity.

Complainants include Zimbabwe Peace Project director Jestina Mukoko. She was allegedly abducted from her Norton home by armed men while in her nightwear and taken to unknown places where she spent three months incommunicado.
