Two members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) were arrested yesterday in Mbare after they allegedly went on a rampage, beating up residents in one of Harare’s oldest high-density suburbs.

Although no comment could be obtained from the ZNA, Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau last night confirmed the arrests and said the soldiers were assisting police with investigations.

“I received that report and I can confirm that we picked up two soldiers and they are assisting us with investigations,” Sabau said

According to the police, on Sunday, one of the soldiers had a misunderstanding with some residents in the area, resulting in him engaging in a fist-fight with them, but he reportedly lost the fight.

This resulted in him teaming up with 14 other soldiers yesterday and returning to the suburb, seeking revenge, but he reportedly failed to locate his assailants.

However, the soldiers then decided to vent their anger by indiscriminately beating up innocent residents causing mayhem in the area.
