LOCAL meat wholesaler, Associated Meat Packers, has sued Zimbabwe’s sole ethanol blending firm, Green Fuel, over an outstanding debt of $16 000 for supplies delivered in December 2014.

The meat-packing firm filed the summons at the High Court on Monday, but the court papers’ stamp indicates the documents were prepared sometime in November last year.
According to the court summons, between November and December 2014, the meat-supplying firm sold and delivered goods to Green Fuel at the latter’s request and instance.
The goods delivered to Green Fuel, according to the court papers, were worth $15 866,34 and it was the terms of the sale agreement that the fuel firm would pay for the goods within seven days of receipt of the products.
However, the meat-packing firm alleges: “Despite demand, defendant [Green Fuel] has failed, refused and/or neglected to pay the amount owing to plaintiff [Associated Meat Packers]”.

“Wherefore, plaintiff claims against the defendant payment of the sum of $15 866,34 and payable to plaintiff by defendant and interest at the prescribed rate from the date of summons to date of full payment and costs of suit,” Associated Meat Packers said in its declaration.
Green Fuel is owned by Billy Rautenbach.
Rautenbach’s firm has since entered an appearance to defend notice and is prepared to challenge the meat-supplying firm in court.
