Chitungwiza regional magistrate Estere Chivasa suspended two years of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that the man raped the teenage girl in September last year, but the matter only came to light in December after it emerged that the minor was pregnant.

Prosecutor Tendai Mukariri told the court that on April 30 last year, the minor’s aunt (name withheld) requested her brother to come and stay with them in Seke.

Sometime in September last year, the minor went for a bath and left her uncle on his cellphone in the house.

The court heard the uncle later followed her into her bedroom where he muffled her mouth with a piece of cloth and raped her.

After the act, he threatened to kill her if she divulged the abuse.

On December 28 last year, the juvenile’s mother suspected that her daughter was pregnant and she took her to a clinic for examination and the pregnancy was confirmed.

She then quizzed her daughter on what had happened and the girl spilled the beans, leading to her uncle’s arrest.
