A COMMERCIAL sex worker has welcomed a protection order issued against her by the Harare Civil Court, saying it will allow her to pursue her business without interference from her client.

Memory Mutsvene said she was quite comfortable with being ordered not to physically and verbally assault Kingstone Fungai, who had accused her of being violent.
In his submissions, Fungai had told magistrate Barbara Mateko that he wanted protection from Mutsvene because whenever the two met, she always pelted him with empty bottles.
The court further heard that at times, Mutsvene would grab Fungai’s car keys and flee with them.

Fungai further said he wanted Mutsvene barred from entering a bar where the two usually met.
However, in response, Mutsvene welcomed the application, saying she had no problems with the granting of the order since it would reduce her contact with Fungai, giving her the opportunity to find other clients.
“I am okay with the order because he (Fungai) actually disrupts my business in the bar,” she said.
Mutsvene, however, told the court that after filing the application, Fungai had confided in her that his parents had pushed him into seeking a protection order, but he had no problems with having sexual relations with her.
“When he served me with the court papers, he said I should not worry because the order only bars physical abuse and not sexual intercourse,” Mutsvene said.
Magistrate Barbara Mateko granted the protection order in Fungai’s favour.
