PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe yesterday left the country for Tokyo, Japan, on a five-day official visit.

According to ZBC, the visit was as per invitation by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

A special envoy from Abe met Mugabe early this month and delivered a letter on issues relating to United Nations Security Council reform that the Japanese leader wanted to discuss with Mugabe.

Abe invited Mugabe to attend the sixth edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development slated for Kenya in August. The visit to Japan comes a few weeks after Mugabe aborted a trip to India to attend a cultural festival, which was snubbed by the host President and others Heads of State and Government.
