Council authorities have said the water-shedding is expected to begin next month if the city does not receive adequate rains soon.

Addressing stakeholders from different organisations at Town House on Monday, mayor, Martin Moyo urged residents to use water sparingly until council has come up with a solution to the crisis.

“It is evident that the available water in the dams needs to be conserved and one of the strategies is to water-shed. For a start, a 24-hour regime is recommended, but a 48-hour regime has been submitted for future consideration,” he said.

“Currently we have a deficit of 18 megalitres/day since Umzingwane Dam has been decommissioned. The deficit can be increased due to the high drawdowns, as a result of high temperatures and high consumption rates since it’s summer.”
