CHOREOGRAPHER and dancer, John Cole has defended his Best Dancer of the Year and Best Choreographer awards at the recent Zim Hip-Hop Awards and Zimbabwe Modelling Awards respectively following a social media storm in which people questioned how he scooped the awards ahead of more deserving contenders.

Cole told NewsDay yesterday that he was not fazed by the negative comments from people who did not appreciate and recognise his talent.
“I will continue doing what I do best and that’s dance. I am a dancer, the one who creates dance compositions, plans, arranges dance movements and patterns. Dance is in my blood, it is my profession, therefore, I will keep at it,” he said.
Social media networks have been abuzz with comments from people, who felt there were more deserving dancers than Cole.
Jibilika Dance Trust founder, Plot Mhako wrote on Facebook that Cole’s win was “a fraud”, as he was just a choreographer and not a dancer.

“I will say it on record. The boy has not been dancing but choreographing. I will call this a fraud,” he said.
Another observer queried why Cole had to win a hip-hop award, when he was “a rhumba dancer”.
“When a rhumba dancer wins best hip-hop award? Can’t say I didn’t see it coming. I know y’all not happy fam, but let’s keep it moving. I am not usually one to speak on these issues, but damn, I have seen these folks give awards to twerkers over folks who spend hours on their craft,” he wrote.
