MEMBERS of the Joshua Nkomo Youth Movement met at White City Stadium in Bulawayo on Saturday, where they adopted a new political ideology called “Nkomoism”, stemming from the late nationalist’s principles of self-reliance.

The organisation’s leader, Mehluli Moyo, told Southern Eye yesterday that the event was a huge success and attracted several political and church leaders, who subscribed to the late Vice-President’s ideology.
“We had a lot of individuals from political parties, mainly from Zapu, Zanu PF, MDC, MDC-T, Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP), Congress for True Democracy; and also from churches and the corporate world,” he said.
“The main speaker was Richard Mahomva, who articulated the ideology of Nkomoism. Since it was an event for young people, it was important to have a young speaker. He spoke about Nkomoism, which is an ideology that emphasises that we should be self-reliant and not depend on donor funding so that our society progresses.”
The Joshua Nkomo Youth Movement works in collaboration with several like-minded groups to preserve the late nationalist’s legacy through events such as the annual Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo commemorations held on July 1 to mark the anniversary of his death.
