According to Botswana media reports, Japhet Chaganda (49) was arrested on March 25.
Chaganda, however, told trial magistrate Dumisani Basupi that the stones were gifts he received from church and that they were not diamonds .
“The stones are not diamonds. I got them from the church. And I have another case at the High Court which I have a bail pending appeal,” Chaganda told the court, but declined to identify his church.
The court remanded him in custody to Wednesday this week.
