FORMER State Procurement Board (SPB)executive chairperson, Charles Kuwaza, who died under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday, was laid to rest at a low-key burial at Glen Forest Memorial Park yesterday.
By STAFF REPORTER
Kuwaza died after allegedly jumping from the 9th floor of a city building.
The former permanent secretary in the ministries of Finance and Defence and 15-year executive chairperson at SPB was laid to rest without any senior officials from the Office of President and Cabinet attending the occasion.
Adding to the family’s unusual locking of the gates at his Borrowdale home yesterday, the media and members of the public were asked not to record the burial or take any photographs during the proceedings.
Kuwaza, who was Africa’s chess champion for five years and Zimbabwe number one for 10 years, was on remand at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts on $1 million corruption and fraud charges. He was out of custody on $2 000 bail and was expected to appear in court later next month.
