Lupane Rural District Council says it requires at least $1,3 million to complete the construction of four clinics. Council chief executive officer, Christopher Chuma told Southern Eye yesterday that the clinics had been built in part with resources mobilised by local communities.

“We have completed Lake Alice Clinic in Lake Alice ward at a cost of $300 000, which is due for commissioning next month and have started the construction of four other clinics in different wards which are at various stages of completion. We are looking at raising an amount of about $1,3 million to see these clinics through,” Chuma said.
Chuma said these new clinics were Tshongogwe, Lusulu, Tiki and Lupanda.
“We are constructing these clinics as we have realised that villagers travel long distances to seek medical assistance, as this is a basic right to them. Currently, there are only 13 health centres far apart from each other in which these cater for 28 wards in the district,” Chuma said.
He also said ideally, there must be one clinic per ward.

Chuma added that government had given them the green light to recruit three nurses to beef up staff at Lake Alice Clinic.
