A 43-YEAR-OLD Hwange woman has been sentenced to six years for attempted murder after setting ablaze her sister’s hut, while her sibling was asleep in a bid to kill her.

This was heard when Judith Shoko of Chilanga village under Chief Nekatambe appeared before Hwange regional magistrate, Colet Ncube charged with attempted murder. It was the State’s case, presented by Tinomupei Mbiza, that on Monday at around 3am, Shoko, armed with a box of matches and a rope went to her 63-year-old sister, Idah Chimbiye Shoko’s homestead and set the house ablaze, knowing that her sibling was in the hut sleeping.
Shoko allegedly tied the door to prevent her from escaping.
Idah heard her sister tying the door, shouting that she wanted to kill her, as revenge for assaulting her. Judith ignored her sister’s pleas and set the hut ablaze intending to kill her.
The elder sister was heard by her son, Albert Mudimbo screaming, who then rushed to her bedroom hut, which had already been engulfed by flames and rescued her.

She sustained minor injuries.
The value of the property destroyed was $300. The magistrate sentenced Shoko to six years of which three years were suspended for five years on condition she does not commit a similar offence.
