THE Roman Catholic Church has appointed Bishop Michael Bhasera to run the Gweru Diocese on an interim basis until a substantive bishop has been identified.

The diocese has been without a substantive head following the death of Bishop Xaxier Munyongani last month.

Zimbabwe Catholic Bishop’s Conference’s secretary-general Father Fredrick Chiromba confirmed the development in a statement recently.

“Today, October 24, 2017, His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed the Right Reverend Michael Dixon Bhasera, Bishop of Masvingo, Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Gweru, sede vacante et admutum Sancatae Sedis,” read the statement.

Chiromba said Bhasera will be in charge of both dioceses until Munyongani’s successor has been appointed.
