MIDLANDS recorded 7 801 criminal cases for the first six months of the year compared to 6 965 cases during the same period last year, translating into a 12% increase, provincial police boss, Assistant Commissioner, Charles Ndoro has revealed.

“We have put in place strategies to curb the increase in these crimes of concern (sic) during the second half of 2018 in an endeavour to reduce the fear of crime among our citizens,” Ndoro said during a recent visit to the province by Police Commissioner-General, Godwin Matanga.
“The most critical challenges that are confronting the province are human and material resource shortages. Even though we have complemented our operations with officers from our technical sections, there still exists some gaps in terms of our human resources deployment.”
Ndoro also said police officers in the province were facing accommodation and transport challenges.
He said the province has been operating with a depleted vehicle fleet, a situation that was compromising service delivery.

“By its very nature, policing requires an efficient transport system for swift responses,” Ndoro said.
He, however, expressed optimism that with the support that Matanga was giving to the province, police in the Midlands would be able to fulfil their constitutional mandates.
