A SPEEDING Mutare-based commuter omnibus driver, who hit and killed a schoolboy, was last week sentenced to 14 months for negligent driving.

Revai Mutimba appeared before Mutare magistrate Perseverance Makhala last Friday who suspended four months on condition of good behaviour.
Mutimba’s licence was cancelled, and he was prohibited from driving for the next two years.
The court heard that on 27 August, 2018 at around 10:15am, Mutimba was driving a commuter omnibus along Mutare-Nyanga Road and tried to overtake, but he misjudged the distance between cars and while trying to avert a head-on collision with an oncoming car, hit Zila Mugona.
He rushed the pupil to Old Mutare Hosptal where he was certified dead on arrival.
