A MIDLANDS State University (MSU) third year medical student, Lynette Ndlovu, has been elected as the new president of the Federation of African Medical Students’ Association, a body that represents all medical students in Africa, Southern Eye has established.
Ndlovu was elected through online voting and becomes the first president of the medical association from southern Africa since its establishment in 1968.
“Midlands State University third year medical student and member of the Zimbabwe Medical Students’ Association Lynette Ndlovu, has been elected and sworn in as president of the Federation of African Medical Students’ Association, a body representing all medical students in Africa,” MSU said in a statement.
“Ndlovu was elected through an online voting platform, after having satisfied the rigorous selection criteria, which was based on academic merit, sound leadership skills, and community service.”
MSU added: “She survived tough competition to become the first-ever female president from southern Africa since the birth of the organisation in 1968.

“As president, she went on to select the financial director, Panashe Mangoze and secretary Tinotenda Ngwarati, also MSU students and previous regional co-ordinators for southern Africa.”
MSU said the three students had a vision of enhancing the visibility of the institution’s medical school through creating an African medical hub and establishing medical student exchange programmes across the globe.
