THE Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 12th edition of the annual Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo says tourism is playing its part in the ongoing re-engagement process.

The World Tourism Expo is an annual event organised by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, and this year’s edition will run from September 12 to 14 at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair Grounds in Bulawayo.

A member of LOC, Butholezwe Nyathi, said preparations had gone up a gear as they were working round the clock to ensure the expo provides the best of what Zimbabwe offers, adding that this year’s edition would be graced by three provincial tourism councils from South Africa.

“Those who know our tourism history will know that South Africa has been a traditional source-market for tourists and that tourism is also playing its part in the ongoing re-engagement process,” he said.

“Tourism is also playing its part, leveraging on the historical relations we have with South Africa, all in an effort to ensure the sector contributes to the broader agenda under Vision 2030. So, in essence, Bulawayo looks forward to receiving Africa and the world.”

Nyathi said the country’s second largest city was ready to welcome the world at the expo.

He said to date, over 250 local and international exhibitors had registered to participate, with more expected to come on board before registration ends today.

Meanwhile, ZTA acting executive director, National Conventional Bureau, Pauline Ndlovu, said in a statement that about 150 international buyers had already confirmed their attendance at the event, which is also expected to be graced by 15 international media houses.

She said the buyers were coming from South Africa, Europe, China-Asia-Pacific, Ghana and the United Kingdom.
