A women’s pressure group, Women of Zimbabwe Arise (Woza), has filed an urgent High Court chamber application seeking the immediate eviction of police officers who have been occupying its offices in the city since last Friday.
The matter has been set for hearing today before Justice Nicholas Mathonsi.
Woza lawyer, Kossam Ncube, yesterday confirmed the urgent court application.
“We made a chamber application on Tuesday 14 June seeking an order compelling Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri, Chief Superintendent Patrick Moyo, the Officer Commanding CID Law and Order Section Southern Region and the Officer In Charge CID Law and Order Section at Bulawayo Central Police Station, to remove all police officers from the house with immediate effect and to bar the police from removing anything whatsoever from the house,” he said.
Ncube said in the application, Jenni Williams, the Woza leader, wants the High Court to restore back to the organisation full and undisturbed occupation of the house.
In a statement, Woza said the officers were served with the copies of the application on Wednesday.

Police last Friday allegedly stormed Woza offices in the city centre in a bid to stop the activists’ meeting where they discussing service delivery by Zesa.
The activists, who were reportedly preparing petitions against the power utility, managed to escape using the other gate.
Yesterday afternoon, police were still camped at the offices, six days later.
When NewsDay visited the offices yesterday, three police officers, one of them armed with an AK rifle, were still stationed at the Woza offices.
The police there said they did not know what was going on as they had just been instructed to “guard the premises”.
