A 19-year-old Chakari man, Nyasha Chirongoma, was last week arraigned before the courts for allegedly withdrawing money from Econet Wireless’ Ecocash facility without authority, prejudicing the intended recipient of the cash.

The complainant is Ecocash represented by Takunda Maraini.

It is the State case that on December 8 in the afternoon, the accused, who is unemployed, received a text message from Jane Jawawu stating that she had deposited $30 through an Ecocash account.

According to the State outline, on the same day Chirongoma withdrew $30 using false identity particulars.

A few minutes after the transaction took place, the court heard, Jawawu went to the Ecocash agent and reported she had mistakenly sent cash to the accused.

Jawawu was told by the complainant that Chirongoma had already withdrawn the money.

Police detectives were alerted and tracked down Chirongoma, leading to his arrest and recovery of the $30.

Magistrate Takawira Mugabe remanded the accused to December 21 on free bail.
