Three people died when a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned last week.

The driver lost control and hit a tree at the 177km-peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tinaye Matake said names of the deceased were still being withheld as their next of kin were yet to be informed.

“The driver of the truck, Chakatumba Mukande, lost control of the vehicle in which four people were aboard and veered off the road before hitting a tree. The truck overturned once, killing two people on the spot while another one died upon admission at Neshuro Hospital,” Matake said.

He said the fourth passenger, who was also injured, was in a stable condition at the hospital.
